R01 National Cycling Route in Varaždin County – Drava – Mura-Drava Cycling Route

The Drava Route has been co-financed through the Mura-Drava Bike Project and includes supporting infrastructure services such as signalling, cycling rest points, Bike&Bed accommodation, GPS navigation, the education and licensing of three cycling guides and promotion on tourism markets. The Drava Cycling Route, which is internationally designated as R1, combines nature and an urban environment, and its natural beauty and cultural diversity makes it one of the most beautiful cycling routes in Europe.

In fact, considering that a large part of the Route goes through Varaždin County, there is a possibility of seeing different cultural and natural sights located near the cycling paths, accompanied with rich gastronomic offerings (Križovljangrad Castle in Cestica, Arboretum Opeka in Vinica, the Zelendvor Hunting Resort and the City of Varaždin with its museums, the Old Town (Castle), Drava Forest Park and the like). The Route runs along well-maintained cycle paths and smaller local roads with reduced traffic from the Dubrava Križovljanska Border Crossing to Varaždin, where it then crosses into Međimurje County. Throughout its length the Route is marked by bicycle signs, POIs, such as accommodation, gastronomic and wine offerings, natural and cultural sights, sports facilities and service information and clearly indicated. Cycling maps with all requisite information have been printed and an online cartographic system was created for which it is possible to download GPX files for navigation devices (the locations are grouped into main categories ad contained in separate GPI files). This route is recommended for all recreational cyclists and, due to different types of surfaces, trekking or mountain bikes are recommended.

Cycling Route R01 is 26.6 km long. The condition of the road along the whole of this Route is suitable for cyclotourism activities.
